Mark D. Nelson

President - Chief Executive Officer

As a former attorney in Washington, D.C., a senior executive of a Fortune 300 company, and Chief Operating Officer of one of the largest, privately-held energy service providers, Mark saw a gap in the industrial services market and set out to build something unique.

Mark wanted to create a new and different type of home for established, high performing businesses whose owners were ready to take their companies to the next evolution. In 2015, Bristol Bay Native Corporation backed this vision, leading to the founding of BBI.  Since then, BBI has grown significantly and rapidly. With more than 2,000 employees and over $2 billion in annual revenue, BBI companies perform critical infrastructure services in the utilities, construction, energy, fuel distribution, and manufacturing sectors.

Mark’s focus remains on driving strategy, fostering an innovation culture, cultivating relationships, pursuing prospects, and ensuring that each of BBI’s companies is fully backed and positioned for long-term success.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alabama and a Juris Doctor from Stanford University. He is a member of several advisory and charitable boards.

   Our unique
      advantage

THE ADVANTAGE
BBI is a minority-backed business,
but it is so much more.

Long-term success requires patience and strategic resolve. Businesses need ample capital and time to navigate challenges, forge partnerships, and seize opportunity. Nothing disrupts the entrepreneurial process more than anxious capital.

Bristol Bay Industrial is designed to be different. Unlike publicly traded entities, which are incented to sacrifice long-term opportunities in order to meet quarterly earnings targets, BBI measures its impact over decades not quarters. And unlike private equity funds, which must constantly seek new investors, BBI is backed by a single, perpetual source of capital.

Our backer, Bristol Bay Native Corporation, not only provides BBI with a unique minority advantage, it also provides sustainable capital and long-term stability. While other funds are out chasing the next cash infusion, BBI is free to focus on our businesses, their needs, and their opportunities for success.

Through the unique construct of a single-backer business model, BBI has built a nimble team and dynamic portfolio that is able to navigate the market with certainty. We forge long-term partnerships that consider both the indigenous values of our investors and the independence of our member companies.
